Jusilyn Barong Tagalog
Jusilyn barong tagalog, the easiest one to own
Jusilyn is the fabric we recommend to most people buying their first barong. It is soft, light and far more forgiving than the traditional weaves: it creases less, washes more easily, and costs considerably less than piña. It still looks like a barong, because the embroidery and the cut are the same.
What you trade is a little of the texture that jusi and piña carry. Jusilyn is smoother and slightly more uniform. At two metres away, almost nobody can tell.
What jusilyn actually is
Jusilyn is a blended cloth developed as a practical alternative to jusi. It keeps the semi-sheer quality a barong needs, but the fibres are more consistent. That makes it stronger, less prone to creasing and considerably easier to look after.
That matters more than it sounds. A traditional piña barong is a garment you protect. A jusilyn barong tagalog is one you can pack, wear for eight hours, and wear again next month without a trip to the dry cleaner.
Choose by occasion
-
Your first barong
Start plain and classic. Alfred JF05 or Davide JS12 in classic white will carry you through a wedding, a baptism and an office function.
-
Weddings
Heavier embroidery lifts jusilyn into ceremonial territory. Arthur JY02 in gold, Brixon JK32 in piña jusilyn, or JJ123.
-
Modern and monochromatic
Jusilyn takes colour well. Jake JV546 in mono black, or Echo JV521 in mono pink. More in our monochromatic range.
-
Daytime and warm weather
Short sleeves for outdoor events and afternoon ceremonies. Noah JB201 in white.
Want the structured version? Joseph JN58 and JJ120 are jusilyn coats and jackets. The full range is in barong coats.
Jusilyn against the alternatives
| Fabric | How it compares | Choose it when |
|---|---|---|
| Jusilyn | Softest and most durable. Creases least, cleans easiest, costs least. | It is a first barong, the day is long, or you will travel with it. |
| Jusi | More texture and body. The traditional benchmark. | You want the classic finish for a formal ceremony. |
| Organza | Crisper and more transparent. Holds a sharper line. | You want structure, shine and maximum airflow. |
| Piña cocoon | The finest and the most expensive. Real weight and visible handwork. | You are the groom, or buying something to keep for decades. |
Some pieces here are piña jusilyn, a blend that brings a little of the piña texture at a jusilyn price. JJ122 is one worth looking at if you are torn between the two.
Size and fit
A barong hangs from the shoulder rather than following the body, so it is more forgiving than a shirt. The shoulder measurement, taken seam to seam across the back, is the one that decides whether it looks right.
Measure in inches over a thin undershirt. Philippine sizing runs smaller than American, Canadian or Australian sizing, frequently by a complete size, so your usual label is not a reliable guide.
If your shoulder and chest indicate different sizes, ask about custom fitting instead of rounding up. Ordering for a group? Order everyone at once, because dye lots vary between production runs.
Wear a camisa de chino underneath. Jusilyn is semi-sheer like every barong fabric, and an undershirt also keeps the barong itself cleaner.
Care, and why this fabric is different
A jusilyn barong tagalog asks less of you than any other fabric we sell.
This is where jusilyn earns its reputation. Plain pieces can be hand washed in cool water and laid flat to dry, which is not something we would suggest with piña. Heavily embroidered pieces are still safer dry cleaned.
Steam rather than iron, and keep heat off the embroidery. Hang the barong rather than folding it. Jusilyn recovers from packing better than any other barong fabric, which is why it is the sensible choice if you are flying to the wedding.
Dressing the rest of the family
For partners, see our women's Filipiniana. Children are in the kids collection, where jusilyn is also the fabric we recommend most. For a full entourage, start at the wedding collection or a groomsmen package.

Questions about jusilyn
Is jusilyn lower quality than jusi?
No, it is a different fabric with different strengths. It is more durable and easier to care for; jusi has more traditional texture.
Can I really wash it at home?
Plain pieces, yes, by hand in cool water. Anything with dense embroidery is safer dry cleaned.
Is it acceptable for a wedding?
Completely. Choose one with fuller embroidery if you want it to read as ceremonial.
Is jusilyn see-through?
Semi-sheer, like every barong fabric. Wear a camisa de chino underneath.
Does it come in colours?
Yes, and it holds colour better than the traditional weaves. See the monochromatic and coloured ranges.
What is piña jusilyn?
A blend that brings some of the piña texture at a lower price than pure piña.
Will it survive being packed in a suitcase?
Better than any other barong fabric. Pack it last, hang it on arrival, steam if needed.
