Choosing by occasion
- Binyag or christening: white or cream, in the softest fabric you can find. The child will be held for most of it, so nothing stiff.
- Wedding: ring bearers and flower girls usually match the entourage. Ask the couple for the colour before ordering.
- Buwan ng Wika: August, and every school in the country needs one at the same time. Order in June if you can.
- Family portraits and birthdays: something the child will actually wear twice, which usually means jusilyn rather than organza.
Choosing a fabric for a child
Comfort decides this more than looks do. Jusilyn is soft, light and washable. That makes it the sensible choice for a baptism, or any long ceremony where a child will be picked up and carried. Organza and piña organza are crisper and photograph sharper, and they suit a wedding where the barong only has to survive a few hours.
Whatever the fabric, a barong is sheer by design, so a plain white undershirt goes underneath.
Looking after it
Children's clothes meet food. Jusilyn is the forgiving one: cool water, laid flat to dry, and most marks come out. Organza and piña organza are better dry cleaned, and neither should meet a hot iron, which will flatten the crispness and can scorch the embroidery. Steam on low instead.
Hang the barong rather than folding it into a drawer. If it is being kept for a younger sibling, store it on a hanger with the buttons done up so the front panel keeps its shape.

If the event is months away, order closer to the date or take the next size up. Children grow faster than production and shipping take. For a size that falls outside the standard run, ask about custom fitting and we will cut to the measurements you send.

Dressing the whole family
If the children are matching adults, order everyone together rather than separately. Dye lots vary between production runs. Two ivory barongs bought months apart will not photograph as the same colour. Our couple and family sets solve this, and so do the father and son pairings.
